Practice report by Aramco: British GP

British GP

FP1 was interrupted by persistent rain showers that meant few laps were completed, while Lance was the fastest of the two Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team drivers in FP2.

Free Practice One was affected by rain shortly before the session that left some parts of the circuit wetter than others. Further rain during practice meant that few cars set a complete lap time.

The track dried up for the second session and Sebastian and Lance completed 47 laps in total during the day's running.

Sebastian

Despite the rain, Sebastian took to the track briefly for a three-lap run on Intermediate tyres at the start of the session. He put in a time of 1.59.168 to go into 10th place.

He returned to the track on new Soft tyres and was set to get a quicker time when his lap had to be abandoned due to a red flag with just a minute to go.

The Hard compound was the tyre of choice for Sebastian for the start of FP2 and he completed a 10-lap run with a fastest time of 1.32.091.

Sebastian's Soft-tyre stint was interrupted when he was called back to the pits for some minor repairs, but he completed 10 laps with a best time of 1.30.057 to finish in 12th position and collecting 25 laps worth of valuable data.

"A busy day with mixed weather: some rain just before first practice and the usual windy conditions you expect at Silverstone.

"All of that limited what we could learn when the track was wet or drying out. We also had some downtime this afternoon with a few small issues that we had to repair during the session.

"So limited track time, and we have not done all the work we would normally do on a Friday. That is a little frustrating because we have quite a few updates this weekend, so we will try to play catch up tonight and tomorrow morning to be ready for qualifying."

Lance

The Silverstone rain meant Lance's running was heavily disrupted by the weather. He completed a three-lap run on Intermediate tyres with a time of 1.51.243 meaning he went eighth fastest.

After returning from the pits with just three minutes to go, he headed out on the Soft tyres, but spun in the challenging damp conditions. Despite no collision, this brought out a red flag and an early conclusion to the session.

After a check-over of the car in the garage, Lance began FP2 on the Medium tyre and completed a 10-lap stint with a best time of 1.31.440.

He then opted for the Soft tyre and improved to a time of 1.29.942 in a seven-lap run to finish in 10th, completing a total of 22 laps in the first day of practice.

"I think we completed some solid running today, despite the weather. I got a good feel for the car and my first experience of the upgrades was positive.

"I think there are some small improvements to make as we optimise things, but we will keep pushing tonight and tomorrow morning to be ready for qualifying.

"It is the usual stuff - a bit of understeer here, a bit of oversteer there, but we will try and sort it out ready for tomorrow."
