Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team completed 112 laps in a useful day of running on Friday at the Hungaroring.
Sebastian was 11th fastest in Free Practice One in a session focused around aerodynamic testing on both cars, before finishing in seventh in Free Practice Two.
Sebastian
Sebastian started his day with short runs on the Hard compound tyre. While overall laptime was not the focus, he set a best lap of 1.23.101 across 17 laps on those tyres in the opening two thirds of the session.
He then switched to the Soft compound tyre, and improved to a 1.20.383 in a nine-lap stint to finish in 11th for 26 laps in the session.
Hungarian GP
The tight and twisting Hungaroring hosts the final Formula One race before the summer break. The 2022 ground-effect cars should be at their best through the track's high-speed corners and should make it easier to pass as well.
For FP2, Sebastian completed an eight-lap run early on with the Medium compound tyre with a best time of 1.20.090.
He then completed a qualifying simulation on the Soft tyre with a best time of 1.19.253 – his quickest lap of the session.
Sebastian then completed further long running on the Medium and Soft compound tyres used from earlier in the session, completing 31 laps in total.
"On the face of it, our pace today looked quite good – our long runs were quite competitive, and I think we did a solid job as a team, but the car is still quite difficult to drive.
"We have recently struggled to qualify in dry conditions so I am optimistic that tomorrow's expected heavy rain will provide us with an opportunity.
"I love driving this circuit and I really hope that the weather does not stop us putting on a show for the fans tomorrow."
Lance
In FP1, Lance started his running on the Hard tyre and put in a best time of 1.23.421 during his 15 laps on that set of tyres.
He switched to Soft tyres for the final part of the session and improved his time on several occasions during his 10-lap run to finish on a 1.20.414 after completing 25 laps overall.
Lance started his FP2 running on the Medium tyre, setting a best time of 1.20.454 early in the running.
He switched to the Soft tyre in the middle of the session and put in a 1.19.702 – his best time of the day.
Lance stayed with that set of Soft tyres for much of the remainder of the session, before concluding the day's running on the Medium tyres from the start of the session.
"It is positive that we are still bringing updates to the car – we will look at the data tonight to see what impact they are having.
"Today was a good day – in the dry, we look to be right in the mix in the midfield. But it is very close there, with only a couple of tenths separating much of the pack.
“The forecast for the rest of the weekend is uncertain so it is difficult to predict where anyone will be in qualifying tomorrow or in Sunday's race."
