Together, we create

One hour, one room, one F1 car. No rules. What would you create? We invited creators from both sides of the Atlantic to make their mark by giving them unrestricted access to an Aston Martin F1 car ahead of the United States Grand Prix.

Muralist Rey Jaffet and documentary film maker Samantha Hunter are American artists with a passion for things big and bold. They told us how they brought an Aston Martin F1 car to life – almost literally…

"Even since I was very young, I have been a very curious human, and I always realised that art was where my path was. When I create, I try to go deep into myself, and live as my true self. That's where I find purity. Myself and Samantha, we both carry a strong fire within ourselves, so that really pushes us to create what we believe in."

"Working with the AMF1 car, it follows the curvature of the human body. How we integrate ourselves into the world is similar to how a car behaves and grips on the track. There are so many different, important parts; fingers, hands, joints, wheels. We want to show how the two come together, and highlight the little, intimate details of the car relating to the human body."

"As artists, we look at things deeply, as one giant metaphor. That's how we are able to see things like a static car abstractly, but then appreciate it directly at the same time. We find beauty in that. Any opportunity to be vulnerable with our art and explore our work without any limits; that's where we thrive."

"If we had more time, I wanted to create a film starting super close to the driver's eye, and then slowly zooming out to show them driving fast around a track, to highlight that no matter how fast the car is going, it still all comes down to their heartbeat and their concentration."

"I do a lot of documentary work. I get to meet everyday heroes and hear amazing stories, and be given the opportunity to get close to my work and find the truth. The documentary platform is so powerful and can be used to change the way people think. That's why I wanted to get involved in the first place; not just the creative side, but the change that comes with it."

"With the Aston Martin F1 car, we want to explore the connection between humans and cars, and show that the human body and the car's body come together, to be intimate on the road. We get in a car every day, so our aim is to bridge the gap between human and machine and show the relationship with it."

"We as humans are dancing through life, just as a car dances around the track. We're flowing through everything, every curve and corner. Although we were working in a static setting with the car in the studio, we still wanted to explore the motion of life."

"Working with Rey, I think creating is often better together. The more minds, the better, and you can create a flow between you and be inspired from each other. That's where the real magic happens, trusting someone's vision. You can never re-create a moment; the meaning, the people, the time can never happen again. This project has a specialness about it because it is so unique; it's quite a vulnerable space to be in."
