Shutter Speed: Behind the lens at our Belgian GP weekend

Shutter Speed: Belgian GP

Spectacular Spa-Francorchamps greeted Formula One for the start of the second half of the 2022 season, and, as ever, provided great opportunities for photographers to take some stunning pictures.

With variable weather throughout the weekend around the undulating Ardennes, we were treated to a behind-the-scenes take on the weekend's action at Spa.

Join Aston Martin F1 Team and Motorsport Images photographer Zak Mauger as he explains the details behind his favourite shots from the Belgian Grand Prix.

"For a few races over the course of the season, the garage has these unique lights in the garage entrance.

"It can be quite difficult to orchestrate this shot as lots of people are coming and going. Sunday is usually a good day to catch the drivers as it’s slightly calmer. This was taken on a 50mm lens, kneeling on the floor looking up at Lance.

"The Oakley sunglasses add another cool element to this shot."

"The new painted tarmac going through Eau Rouge and up Raidillon added a bit of colour on what was otherwise a rather dull weekend weather-wise.

"This is shot from the old pitlane, using a very fast shutter speed and wide-open aperture to isolate Lance."

"This was created using a slow shutter speed and spinning the camera while the shutter is open.

"For this picture to work, it really needs the helmet to be sharp - which thankfully it is!"

"Sebastian got into the car during FP3, and he was directly looking at me, which provided a great opportunity to capture this photo.

"Using a relatively long focal length (200mm), I have really focused on Seb and particularly his eyes as he jumps into his car.

"I particularly like the red background created by the rear lights of the car."
