The Monaco Grand Prix is the crown jewel in the Formula One calendar, and the iconic Monte Carlo circuit winds its way through some of the most iconic backdrops of the season.

With Friday practice running later in the day than usual, creating an atmospheric FP2, and a wet-to-dry race on Sunday, the Principality offered a blank canvas for F1's leading photographers to experiment.

Join Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team and Motorsport Images photographer Zak Mauger as he explains the details that created a stunning array of images.

"There was lovely evening light in Monaco this year, thanks to the sunny weather and later running on the track, which meant a lot of the classic Monaco shots would be in the shade.

"During the track walk on Thursday, I noticed that this section would have nice light.

"I then used a wide-angle and slow shutter speed to highlight the short burst of speed before entering Porter."

"There's a unique overhead angle in the pitlane in Monaco, and as the sun is only in the pits during the morning, I made sure to get this shot of Lance.

"You can see he's pulling out of the garage on full lock for his first run in FP1.

"It's also a great shot to highlight the sponsors on top of the AMR22."

"This shot is of Sebastian post-FP1. The pits are tight in Monaco and Sebastian removed his helmet at the front of the garage, rather than at the back, where everything is quite dark.

"I particularly like the out of focus elements in the background."

"This shot is a Monaco classic. I managed to gain access to the Fairmont Hotel roof for Saturday's FP3, which gives a new perspective of the famous Grand Hotel hairpin.

"It's a good example of how a different approach can create unique shots of a corner that we all know and love."

"The Monaco grid is famously tight and packed with guests.

"This shot is taken right before they all arrive, so shows how busy the mechanics are as they push the cars to the grid and work on them."

"Just like my first image, this is about making the most of a nice light during the later running on Friday.

"There was a nice triangle section of light as Lance enters Portier - I like how the sun picks up the nosecone and Lance's helmet."
