Together with The Aleto Foundation, 16 students will learn directly from members of Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team over the coming months as we break down barriers into Formula One, motorsport, and STEM careers.
Make A Mark is about inclusion and positive progress – wherever we live, work and race – improving the future and prospects of people in our community. Our partnership with The Aleto Foundation will see us work with a group of young students from ethnic minority backgrounds for nine months.
In July 2023, we announced a partnership with The Aleto Foundation to provide a tailored leadership programme for young ethnic minority students who want to gain tangible experience within motorsport.
Our team, and Formula One as a whole, relies on a talented pool of people with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) backgrounds – but the barriers to STEM education and STEM careers are often set too high, particularly for students from ethnic minority backgrounds. A key focus of our Make A Mark programme is to lower those barriers by equipping students with the skills and knowledge to excel within motorsport and related industries.
"I'm really excited to start a conversation with someone who has entered this professional world and to be matched up with someone who wants to help me and is interested in helping me succeed," said mentee Nicole.
Kate Dalton, Head of Brand and Marketing at Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team, said: "A programme like this is massively important to the team. Our mission with The Aleto Foundation has always been to show that motorsport is open to all. For a long time, motorsport has been quite a small world, and it's really our job as a team to push that forward, move boundaries, and bring more diversity into the sport.
"Having more young people in STEM subjects is only beneficial to where the sport is going, and beneficial to society as a whole."
"This is game-changing, it's absolutely fantastic" said The Aleto Foundation CEO, David Villa-Clarke. "Imagine how inspiring it is as a young person, to come through reception at the Campus and see the cars and trophies.
"We've already started with a public speaking workshop, an introduction to your team, and hearing from [Aston Martin Performance Technologies Group CEO] Martin Whitmarsh about what it takes to be an engineer in Formula One.
"It can't get any better than this for our students."
