Ahead of the British Grand Prix, we opened the doors of the AMR Technology Campus to welcome both school and university students as we continue to inspire the next generation.
We're committed to making a mark where we live, work and race. Ahead of the British Grand Prix, more than 300 local school and university students joined us at the AMR Technology Campus as we teamed up with our partners Cognizant and Citi to provide a series of engaging and informative STEM workshops, careers insights sessions, and illuminating panel discussions shining a light on how to pursue a career in the sport.
An inspiring, informative and illuminating two days at the AMR Technology Campus in the build-up to the British Grand Prix saw the next generation tour our state-of-the-art new home and take part in workshops and STEM learning sessions that covered a range of topics, from mechanical engineering and aerodynamics to recruitment and networking skills.
We spoke to some of the university students to get their thoughts on a memorable experience at the AMR Technology Campus and discover more about what they’ve learnt...
An invaluable experience
"Getting first-hand motorsport experience at the AMR Technology Campus has been invaluable," said Ali Otaky, Westminster University.
"It's given me an unparalleled insight into what goes on inside a Formula One team. I want to pursue a career in design and manufacturing and I've seen amazing examples of that at Aston Martin Aramco, such as the production of carbon fibre parts for the F1 car.
"Being here has been amazing. It's really opened my eyes to this world and I'm going to find it hugely useful in my career going forwards."
An inspiring place to learn and work
"I found both the aerodynamics and the manufacturing workshops really interesting," said Julio Correia da Silva, Aston University. "Learning about the data analysis an F1 team does was also fascinating."
"From what I've seen here today, it's made me feel as though I'd love to pursue a career in these fields.
"I love the AMR Technology Campus. It's a stunning facility. Every detail is considered, everything is so clean, and the organisation is incredible; I've learned so much. It's such an inspiring place.
"To be able to spend time with team members and get a real insight into what it's like to work in Formula One was fascinating. I'd love to work here one day."
Opening eyes to a career in motorsport
"I really enjoyed the workshop on aerodynamics where we had to establish the optimum setup for the Hungaroring and Spa, said Tayyab Taseer, University of Westminster.
"We had to consider things like temperature, tyre degradation, top speeds, and work out how you could improve the car while managing different variables.
"My experience today has really opened my eyes to the fact that a career in motorsport can be a reality for me. I never really thought it would be possible, but today has given me the confidence to really go for it. I would love to pursue a career in F1."
Illuminating the path to F1
“One of the key things I've taken away is a better understanding of the different pathways you can follow to a career in Formula One: from being a school student, to university, to getting a career in motorsport, and what you need to study to achieve it," said Ahmed El Zefzafy, Mechanical Engineering Student at Heriot-Watt University.
"The tour of the AMR Technology Campus was really eye-opening. There's so much work that goes on behind the scenes here that isn't apparent when you're watching F1 on TV. I loved learning about all the different departments and how they work together to get the car on track."
