Future Makers: Tomer Weingarten, SentinelOne

Future Makers are the driving forces that take us forward: using technology, determination, collaboration and passion to make things happen. From cybersecurity to social media, we'll hear from the people and partners using winning formulas to affect positive change.

In the second part of our Future Makers series, Tomer Weingarten, Co-Founder and CEO at SentinelOne, examines the importance of understanding data and how this knowledge will impact the future of cybersecurity, digital business and Formula One.

How do we secure a digital society? That is the new and defining problem for the 21st century.

There's just so much data – and it's so dynamic and prolific.

In 2021, the amount of data the world creates in a single day is equivalent to what was previously created in an entire year.

The more data there is, the more people adopt a digital lifestyle, the more opportunities there are to exploit that – something we term the 'attack landscape'.

You never used to buy real estate, or airline tickets, or even your groceries over the internet, but nowadays we've hit a critical scale – and the only solution is to use technology to fight the problem.

Before we hit that critical moment, cybersecurity used to be focused on blocking known attacks – the idea that 'I can scan a network really quickly and block it when I see something bad'. But that approach simply doesn't fly anymore.

It was the same in Formula One: in the past, every part had a life-cycle, with mechanics monitoring stressed components and switching them out to maintain robustness. But they learned the hard way – failures occurred regularly; and reliability, as you can imagine, was pretty patchy…

Nowadays, however, cars are fitted with hundreds of sensors, recording hundreds of thousands of data-points, ensuring that problems can be identified and fixed on the fly. That would all be impossible without the right tech.

And, as we dive more deeply into ways of working between our two organisations, we're increasingly struck by the symmetries: the rise of complex AI processes, the need to pre-empt risk, and the search for a solution that never lets you down.

So, what's next for SentinelOne?

We've built a platform that understands huge amounts of data, which we've applied to a cybersecurity context. Now, that's a $40+ billion problem, and we still have a long runway of opportunity in that domain, but we're working on ways to use our data platform to handle additional use-cases – for instance, in log management and observability.

Sebastian Vettel explains driver kit

Innovation is key in Formula One, from track performance to safety. Join Sebastian Vettel, as he takes you on a tour of the kit that keeps him safe, secure and protected. While we work hard to keep our drivers safe, SentinelOne are working just as hard to keep our data safe.

The race for safety in Formula One

If we're able to help people understand their data, and then take action on their data, that's a highly valuable problem to solve in addition to solving the malware problem. And this is a route that we can pursue in harness with Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team.

Understanding and actioning large amounts of data is not only the future of cybersecurity, but the future of motorsport, and the future of digital business.

Most importantly, it's the future of our society.

Thanks to Tomer for making his mark: #IAMSTORIES.
