You can be my wingman any time. The AMF1 guide to being a good a friend in Movember and beyond.
November. The focus on top lips is never greater than in this month as men sprout facial furniture to raise awareness and funds for Movember.
Since the charity was established in 2003, it's saved millions of men in its efforts to tackle mental health issues, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Throughout the month, Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team (AMF1) has been supporting the cause, with AMF1 team members growing a mo', helping to run more than 60km and taking on a trackside table tennis challenge at the Brazilian Grand Prix to score as many points as possible in 60 seconds – for the 60 men lost to suicide every hour globally.
We've also teamed up with Movember to give you the chance to win a one-of-a-kind Sebastian Vettel cap, signed by Sebastian himself – with 100% of the winning bid from the auction going to Movember to support men's health.
Movember is about more than moustaches and one month, though, year-round we can all make a difference to help those who may be suffering from mental health issues or just feeling a little down.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Aston Martin wings, we're encouraging you to be a 'wingman' to those in your life, and we asked a selection of AMF1 team members for their top tips on how to be a good friend.
1 | Check in
"Being a good friend is recognising when someone might not be feeling or doing too good and checking in with them to make sure they're okay. It's about giving them time to feel better."
Jordan Trevitt, Number Two Mechanic
2 | Maintain connections
"Always check in with people, even if you haven't heard from them in a while – maybe there's a reason for that."
Sam Russell, Composite Technician
3 | Be available
"It's been a tricky few years with everyone being apart, but let your mates know you're there and don't lose touch with them."
Jack Partridge, Garage Technician
4 | Be aware
"Being a good friend is about knowing each other and recognising the signs that something might not be right. Knowing when they're happy, or sad, and being able to talk about it and be there for them, if they want it, or giving them space if they need it.
Matt Watson, Number Two Mechanic
5 | Reach out
"Sometimes it's just about reaching out to a mate and asking for a coffee or a beer. There's nothing a Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% can't solve!"
Jamie Russell, Number Two Mechanic
6 | Don't judge
"If you've got a friend that needs to talk to you, never judge them or put them down. Don't make them feel bad about whatever they're thinking or saying.
"Let them speak freely and support them and give them help and advice if they need it. It's about making them feel like they're not alone."
Jamie Scott, Garage Technician

AMF1 supports Movember in 2022
Men are facing a health crisis that isn’t being talked about. We lose 60 men each hour, every hour – men who should still be here today.
That's why we're supporting the Movember campaign, and we'd love you to get involved. Whether it’s donating, growing a ‘Mo', or moving 60km for #Movember – everyone can take part.
