Lance serves up a special helmet design for the Canadian Grand Prix

Aston Martin F1

Lance takes us on a tour of his home city with a special helmet design for a special race, and he unveiled it at one of his favourite locations before the Canadian Grand Prix.

For his home race, Lance has a new helmet design that whisks fans off on a whistle-stop tour of his favourite Montréal locations, including Lester's Deli, where he and Fernando turned up on Thursday evening to meet fans, show us the design – and some choice dishes.

The design swaps green for white, echoing the Canadian flag and featuring the Aston Martin wings in chrome red, along with a stencilled map of Montréal and the maple leaf at the back.

Most crucial to the design are the QR codes scattered around the helmet. When scanned, these take you on a tour of some spots central to Lance's life in and around his hometown Montréal.

Mont-Tremblant: The town in which Lance’s love for outdoor sports was formed. In winter, he'd ski and snowboard. In summer, he'd go to the lakes, bike and hike.

Park: Lance's favourite Japanese restaurant and a must-visit for Lance on his trips home.

Lester's Deli: A local deli that serves the best smoked-meat sandwiches in Montréal. Both Lance and Lawrence have eaten at the family-run fixture since they were children.

Lower Canada College: The junior school that Lance attended. Where he met his closest friends, some of whom are in attendance at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this weekend.

Gibeau Orange Julep: A fast-food joint that Lance would hit after hockey practice. Lance's hometown guilty pleasure.

Centre Bell: The venue Lance would go to watch his hockey team, the Montréal Canadiens. No game is complete without enjoying a steamy – a Montréal hot dog – here.

SH Karting: The karting track at which Lance first started competitively racing karts, where his love for the sport began to take shape – where the dream began.

The helmet, Lance's race suit and race boots – designed to match his headgear for this weekend – are also being auctioned in aid of the Canadian Red Cross to recognise the heroic work of first responders, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, volunteers, non-governmental organizations, and emergency managers in the response to the wildfires that have affected Canada in recent weeks.

"It's Canadian Grand Prix race week, we have my special-edition Canadian Grand Prix helmet; we've all seen how bad the wildfires across Quebec and Canada have been since the beginning of June," said Lance.

"So to help all the people who have been affected I will be donating my special-edition Canadian Grand Prix helmet, boots, and suit up to auction to help raise money and awareness. I’d like to thank everybody who's helping, the emergency services, all the volunteers. Join me in showing them some love and support, and have a great weekend."
